Mobile video market to take off in 2008

The mobile video market will take off in 2008, predicts market research firm In-Stat.

According to In-Stat, the market for video content of greater than 30 minutes is currently in an experimental phase and will take at least two years to get into the mainstream.

'The greatest potential for this market rests with its ability to complement the existing video industry. For example, there will be over 50 million portable media players in use worldwide by 2008,' says Michael Inouye, In-Stat analyst. 'The portable/mobile long form video market will not likely cannibalize sales from the DVD and other traditional markets, but rather supplement top-line growth.'

In-Stat reports that nearly one out of eight respondents were interested in mobile video services, but the research firm could not conclude how viewers wanted to watch their content – using a multimedia cell phone or separate voice and multimedia device.
