Germany sees increase in mail order shopping
German households have spent an average of €269 on non-food mail order purchases in 1Q 2006, reports market research firm GfK.
Mail order purchases include those made online, via catalogues or phone. According to GfK, mail order purchases make up 12.8 per cent of total non-food spend in Germany, an increase of 0.6 per cent from last year. People under 30 years of age made more mail order purchases as a group, with 16.4 per cent of non-food spend attributable to mail order shopping, followed by the 30-49 age bracket, with 13.3 per cent.
Internet shopping is the most popular form of mail order purchases. The percentage of non-food items bought via the internet has doubled in the period 2003 to 2006, increasing from 3.3 per cent to 6.6 per cent.
