Google launches free mobile services

Mobile phone users can now access a number of Google features on their mobile phones, including email, news alerts, and their personalized homepage.

Google's email service, Gmail, automatically optimizes the interface for each phone so that users can access their email on their mobile as they would on the web. Mobile users can also view attached photos and documents and reply-by-call to people whose phone number is stored in their Gmail account. Gmail messages are automatically synchronized, regardless of whether Gmail is accessed from a mobile device or through the web.

Google News offers quick headline updates, the ability to search current news, and browse categories like business, science/tech, sports, health, and entertainment. Only content that has been formatted for viewing on mobile devices is displayed.

Google Personalized Home for mobile devices is a new service that enables users to access their personalized Google homepage on their mobile phones and PDAs. Google Personalized Home provides at-a-glance access to information from users' Google personalized homepage such as Gmail, customized news headlines, local weather, stock updates, hand-picked RSS feeds, and more. All the content is formatted for the smaller screens and slower bandwidth of most mobile devices so that users do not have to click multiple links to see the information they want.

Google mobile services are free of cost, and are available in a number of languages, including U.S. and U.K. English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Dutch, Russian, Chinese and Turkish.
